Boost Mobile informs customers of data breach

boost mobile data breach

Sprint-owned Boost Mobile has confirmed that it experienced a data breach. The telecom company has said that it noticed unauthorized account activity.

Making a quiet announcement to its customers, Boost Mobile reported its cybersecurity incident. The company has revealed that a malicious actor accessed accounts through phone numbers and Boost.com PIN codes. The company did not mention the number of accounts that were affected by this data breach. It is believed that customer credit card and social security numbers were not compromised.

The company’s security team discovered the issue and implemented a permanent solution to prevent similar occurrences in the future. It was noted that Boost Mobile notified the California Attorney General of the breach as is the requirement when a security incident affects more than 500 people in a state.

Boost Mobile has sent its customers a temporary PIN and urged its customers to reset their PIN code.  The company on its notice wrote: “We apologize for the inconvenience that this may cause you.  Please be assured that our customers’ privacy is important to us and we will continue to take measures to safeguard your account and personal information.”
