Montreal's new sports complex combines strict and fluid design elements, enhancing student life at Collège Notre-Dame's campus.
The Collège Notre-Dame Sports and Cultural Centre, a spectacular new addition to the historic campus, is the newest creation by Montreal-based ACDF Architecture. Embodying the institution's credo of training the mind, heart, and exemplify, this 1,825-square-meter structure skillfully combines rigid geometric shapes with flowing design features.
With two gymnasiums, multipurpose rooms, and a running track, the building—which is located in the middle of campus—is intended to help students feel more connected to one another. The method used by ACDF combines modern architecture with the campus's extensive architectural legacy, which includes a blend of French and English architectural styles.
The bottom floor of the complex connects with the campus environment while offering visibility into internal activity thanks to its fully glass façade and softened edges. Aluminum paneling on the upper level covers up mechanical systems and enhances the building's aesthetic. A green roof enhances sustainability, reflecting the natural heritage of the Mont-Royal area.
Completed in December 2022, this facility is a testament to how architecture can enhance educational and social experiences, aligning with Collège Notre-Dame's mission of holistic student development.
