Russia heat wave, drowning incidents, children drown, extreme temperatures

Heatwave in Russia claims 49 lives, including seven children, in tragic drowning incidents nationwide.

According to the Ministry for Emergency Situations, 49 people died due to drowning incidents on July 6th, during the hottest weeks in over a century. Among the people died, seven are children, underscoring the terrible rising temperatures affecting the nation.

In a 24-hour period, the Ministry registered a significant increase of water-related events compared to this day last year. Russia's Service for Hydrometeorology reported a vast area has recently experienced extreme heat conditions, where the temperature exceeds 35°С; in some parts it even reached up to 40°С.

In the Nizhny Novgorod region of Russia, a ten-year-old girl drowned in the Volga River while her six-year old sister has not yet been found in spite of divers’ continuous searches. Also, in the Bashkiria region, three individuals, including a 16-year-old girl, lost their lives to drowning incidents during the extreme heat wave

Authorities have issued crucial warnings to the public as precautionary measures while engaging in outdoor activities near bodies of water, as these occurrences highlight the dangerous risks posed by the high temperatures. The Ministry for Emergency Situations continues to monitor for more awareness to prevent further tragedies amid the relentless heat.
