The i.MX 91, the newest processor in the i.MX 9 series of application processors, was unveiled by Dutch semiconductor giant NXP.
Rafael Sotomayor, executive vice president and general manager of NXP Secure Connected Edge, provided some information about the new processor during his keynote address. A Cortex-M33 for network management and an 800MHz Cortex-M7 chi8p for real-time control are included as features. Additionally, integrated Gbps with support for time-sensitive networking and industrial protocols is included. It has software libraries for functional safety and is protected by NPX's EdgeLock Secure Enclave.
Smart factories are one application for the i.MX 91. The hub of NPX's industrial platform for smart factories is the i.MX 91, which links EdgeLock, other hardware, NXP's PF5020 multi-channel device for high-performance and industrial applications, and NXP's N-Afe front-end, which powers sensors and actuators.
The use of iMX 91 in smart homes is an additional example. In order to incorporate radios in Matter, NXP's connectivity standard created to facilitate communication between smart home devices, the i.MX/MCU family can be combined with the monolithic tri-radio IW612 from NXP.
The i.MX 91 family is a part of NXP's product longevity program, which makes certain that approved products are available for at least 10 years, with participating products designed for the automotive, telecom, and medical sectors being available for at least 15 years. EdgeLock Secure Enclave is integrated with the Arm Cortex-A55 processor cores combined in the i.MX 91.
