Google made PebbleOS open-source which enables the launch of simplified and long-lasting smartwatches called Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2.
The gadget industry experiences the resurgence of Pebble smartwatch brand which pioneered the sector. Through an official open-sourcing of PebbleOS Google enables developers to enhance the device features and customize the operating system. The open-source move on PebbleOS will lead to innovative developments in smartwatch advancement.
Pebble became popular initially for its e-paper display combined with long battery life before Fitbit obtained the company and later Google acquired the brand. The public access to PebbleOS enables the development of new devices based on the initial Pebble design principles which will appear in future markets.
Among the new smartwatch announcements made by Eric Migicovsky to the Pebble community stood the Core 2 Duo followed by the Core Time 2. At $149 customers receive the Core 2 Duo that comes with a monochrome display screen supported by a battery capable of lasting 30 days without charging. A color touchscreen display exists in the Core Time 2 model which sells at $225. These two models maintain the classic design philosophy that Pebble used to build its reputation.
A major advancement happened in the smartwatch industry demonstrating that classic device designs benefit from modern technological advancement.
