The KP.3 variant is causing concern as COVID cases rise in multiple US states. Health experts’ advices follow precautionary measures.
KP.3, a new variant of COVID, across the United States is rapidly spreading. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report that 36.9% of positive infections occurred between June 23rd and July 6th. KP.3 has raised concerns similar to those of its predecessors, JN.1, KP.1.1, and KP.2, as it is affects public health.
The CDC has observed fever, cough, exhaustion, loss of taste or smell, and other flu-like symptoms that are comparable to those of the JN.1 variant, but it has not yet discovered any particular symptoms that are distinct to the KP.3. It is essential that people who experience severe symptoms, such as breathing difficulties or chest pain, seek medical assistance very away.
“KP.3 is projected to become the dominant variant nationally, accounting for 31.2% to 43% of SARS-CoV-2 viruses. This surge follows its evolution from the JN.1 lineage, which has dominated infections since December 2023,” stated Rosa Norman, spokesperson for the CDC.
Recent data signifies a noticeable increase in COVID-19 cases across several US states. Positive cases increased by 4.7% from June 29 to July 5 in New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas. Experts are closely monitoring this area in case anything changes for future developments.
Health experts highlight the importance of vaccination and following precautionary measures like wearing masks and maintaining social distance. Research is being done on the variant’s transmissibility and reaction to the available vaccinations.
