LG Watch W7 is a hybrid smartwatch with mechanical hands

LG Watch W7 is the mobile company’s latest and first hybrid smartwatch. Watch W7, unlike its IoT predecessors like the Watch Style and Watch Sport, is a hybrid design that will provide an amazing Wear OS experience and the longevity of a regular analog watch.

The $450 smartwatch which includes a Snapdragon 2100 chipset has mechanical hands in front of a 1.2-inch LCD touch display that runs the latest version of Google Wear OS. The mechanical hands sit on a tiny circular occlusion in the middle of the display. This also means scrolling through menu items and notifications will “at times” look a little weird.

“In addition to keeping accurate time, the mechanical hands also display additional information such as altimeter, barometer, stopwatch, timer and compass directions,” says LG, which sought the help of a company called Soprod to design W7’s mechanical functions and movements.

The most intriguing feature of it all is its long battery life. The Watch W7 will last for up to two days as a smartwatch – hybrid, of course – and as an analog watch for up to 100 days – long after the screen turns off. W7 has a stainless steel metal body and will look absolutely massive on many wrists.

Finally, to note, there is also an undesirably long list of things LG chose to omit - NFC, GPS, heart rate sensor and other things. Preorders for Watch W7 will begin on October 7th. The units will start selling at the Best Buy stores for the launch price from October 14th onwards.
