Meta is set to launch a new app called Threads on Thursday. The platform is set to compete with Twitter and become one of its top rivals.
On Thursday, Meta plans to introduce a brand-new app called Threads. The platform is positioned to challenge Twitter and emerge as one of its main competitors.
Ahead of its launch on Thursday, iPhone users noticed the new app appearing on the Apple app store early on Tuesday, with parent company Meta organizing a countdown website in anticipation of its release.
According to a preview, Threads will be a place for communities to gather and talk about anything, from day-to-day topics to the next big thing. People have assumed through screenshots that Threads might be linked to individuals Instagram accounts, allowing users to log in to Threads with their Instagram user name and follow all their previously followed accounts. Similar to Twitter, Threads users will be able to follow anyone directly, from their favorite creators to celebrities, as well as build their own loyal following.
Meta and its increasingly growing platform are officially joining platforms like BlueSky and Mastodon in a bid to replace Elon Musk’s Twitter. Since Musk’s takeover at the end of last year, Twitter's 250 million users have been looking for an alternative due to the increasing difficulty of using the site with the major changes Musk brought on.
Meta’s spokesperson had no comment about the upcoming planned launch.
