WTA demonstrates that, because of demand, teleport operators are now basically network service providers using satellite and land-based networks to ensure future connectivity.
The World Teleport Association (WTA) is about to launch a key research report in June called From Teleport to Network Service Provider: The Search for Tomorrow’s Business Model. The report points out that teleport operator are moving away from standard uplinking and are providing extensive network services as well.
Decreasing attention from large businesses in the basic uplinking field has encouraged teleport operators to introduce unique services for specific markets. Now, the question is how to blend interplanetary satellites with terrestrial networks to provide unbroken connections.
The main reason for this is that networking technologies will greatly support the change, enabling operators to use new open API standards created by groups including TM Forum and Metro Ethernet Forum. When these standards are met, networks and shared infrastructure will mix more smoothly which leads to increased business opportunities.
New network developments also enable satellites to function independently of ground networks. Private networks carrying out critical operations can gain additional security and ability to resist cyber threats because of this technology.
The WTA points out that companies that excel at using technology, changing their structure and learning business knowledge about networks will have the advantage in the future. To continue being important in the industry, teleport operators must adopt networking-based approaches as global connectivity becomes more significant.
With this change, the combination of satellites and land-based systems will lead to new ways to deliver services around the globe.
