The Sill, a plant-retail startup has managed to raise $5 million in Series A round of funding. The Series A funding was led by Raine ventures. It had earlier raised seed funding from Halogen ventures, Tuesday Capital, Blueseed, Brand Foundry ventures and The Chernin Group. With this, the plant-startup has managed to raise a total of $7.5 million.
Its major business medium is through its online store. But it also has two brick-and-mortar retail stores located in New York. The plants sold by the startup cost anything between $6 and $60. It provides free shipping on orders that are above $75 and has a 30-day return policy. The Sill offers expert advice on the kind of plants you can buy based on the lighting at your home too.
With increasing population in cities, the urban spaces are increasingly getting occupied and there are few things that beautify homes better than plants. The company’s CEO and founder Emily Blank founded the company in response to her own struggles while looking to buy plants.
She further mentioned that the target audience for the company are those under 40. The company has surely caught the fancy of the people under 35 years and let’s hope it gains traction for the 35-plus crowd too.
