The Abu Dhabi Department of Health (DoH), which is in charge of the country's healthcare sector, has launched the Clinical Genomic Medicine and Genetic Counseling Program for one hundred Emirati doctors from different medical facilities. This is just one of the department's ongoing efforts to improve the qualifications of the nation's medical workforce. The International Center for Genetic Disease (iCGD), Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and Khalifa University of Science and Technology — which played home to the inaugural ceremony — are partners with the Department of Health (DoH) in offering the program. The program, which reflects DoH's dedication to up-skilling physicians in genomic medicine and providing them with the required information and abilities, is regarded as one of iCGD's largest and most comprehensive national genomics educational programs.
Professor Sir John O'Reilly, President of Khalifa University, H.E. Homaid Al Shimmari, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Khalifa University, H.E. Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi (DoH), H.E. Dr. Noura Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary at the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi, and representatives of local and international partners attended the inaugural ceremony.
The introduction of the genomics program signifies the continuation of the partnership between DoH and iCGD, which was established during the Department's participation in the BIO International Convention 2023 and the signing of a Declaration of Collaboration.
