Airtel Takes on Telecom Traction With New Border Services

Airtel becomes the first private telecom operator in Jammu and Kashmir’s border villages to launch services and bring in more connectivity despite Reliance Jio dominating the market.

The second-largest telecom operator in India, Bharti Airtel, has broken the ground as the first private operator to provide mobile services in seven bordering villages across Jammu and Kashmir. This probably makes a big dent in the other major telecom player in India - Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Jio.

The company connected some of the most remote villages, namely Kachhal, Balbir, and Razdan Pass, to their network on Wednesday, covering the districts of Kupwara, Baramulla, and Bandipora. The installation of 15 mobile towers has availed telecom services for the local populace and soldiers stationed on the Line of Control (LoC).

This will prove useful for the local population and soldiers stationed along the LoC as a contribution from Airtel to the telecom connectivity in important regions of strategic relevance. Previously, the company had made services available in critical areas like Galwan River and Daulat Beg, which is India's northernmost military outpost.

This effort demonstrates Airtel's significance in India's telecom market since at this point, it is shaping up as a potent rival to Reliance Jio. Data in the recent past have indicated that Jio is ceding a portion of its market to Airtel, thus making it even stronger in the telecom sector.

This makes the ongoing efforts of Airtel very much relevant, as Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia assured that universal telecom access would be attained in India by June 2025. More such investments towards telecom infrastructure would certainly help strengthen Airtel's position as a vital player in the country's telecom landscape.
