With the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, Qualcomm firmly redefines its role as a leader in connected computing across industries, enhancing performance and AI power.
At the Snapdragon Summit 2024, Qualcomm Inc. revealed a significant departure from its traditional business model, redefining itself as a ‘connected computing company’ for a future driven by artificial intelligence. According to CEO Cristiano Amon, this transformation positions Qualcomm at the forefront of innovation in every industry. And he said that "Snapdragon is evolving and facing the face of innovations in telecom and technology."
The company itself is also venturing into the PC market to become a rival for companies like AMD and Intel. With the Snapdragon X Elite processor announced by Qualcomm, Amon says it brings a new era for the Snapdragon platform, which he described as a cutting edge solution that revolutionizes performance across all verticals, including telecom.
This will bring Android's flagship performance up a notch with new Snapdragon 8 Elite CPU called Oryon. The chip is manufactured with latest 3nm technology, presenting 45 percent increase in single and multi-core performance and 27 percent decrease in power compared to the predecessor the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Amon highlighted the potential of advanced generative AI in sectors like banking, healthcare, and retail, with major companies such as Samsung, Xiaomi, and Honor set to adopt the technology. The next big transformation, according to Amon, is ‘Gen AI’, poised to impact both telecom and beyond.
