Riverside County Sheriff introduces AI software to their document management system which improves efficiency, supports privacy and helps comply with FOIA.
Riverside County Sheriff’s Office in California uses AI for redaction to better handle document processing tasks. A company called Veritone has created a system called Redact to help government agencies redact faces, license plate numbers and various IDs in digital evidence automatically.
According to Public Information Officer Wenndy Brito-Gonzalez, the sheriff’s office works with large amounts of digital files which makes it important to manage papers both systematically and efficiently. Redact helps us take care of this data in a safer and better way.
The purpose is to cut down on manual work and let staff focus on other important tasks which should result in improved case resolution and better transparency. Redacting records automatically allows the office to comply with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) without breaking privacy rules.
With Riverside County being one of the largest law enforcement agencies in the state, investing in AI tools highlights how significant document process management has become for today’s police. The District Attorney’s Office in San Francisco is using similar computer systems to manage FOIA-related requests.
As there are more public records requests than ever before, the sheriff’s office feels using AI in managing documents will allow them to function, be responsible and operate efficiently.
