Michigan sees 3,000 acres burn due to wildfire on Sunday

With no specific cause known, a wildfire near Grayling, Michigan has grown more than3,000 acres. Officials have lifted the emergency evacuation order.

On Sunday, according to officials, firefighters were battling to put out wildfire that had grown more than 3,000 acres near Grayling, Michigan.

According to a news release from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the wildfire currently thought to be 2,400 acres in size, triggered brief evacuations and caused I-75 to be closed for the majority of Saturday.

The evacuation order has since been removed, and Interstate 75 has reopened. The DNR stated that, the cause of the fire is yet to be known.

The USDA Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the Michigan State Police, and more than ten regional partners are helping with the fire. Assistance is being offered by the Red Cross, to those who have fled the region. The DNR added, that The Beaver Creek Township Hall is offering shelter.

According to the DNR, the blaze began on Saturday around 1 p.m., putting multiple buildings in danger as the fire spread to the west and southwest.

There is no known cause, but the unusually dry and hot weather in Michigan at this time of year, has raised the risk of wildfires dramatically.

In a statement release, the DNR said that the wildfire has caused an eruption of smoke, causing a lack of visibility on the roads. The DNR requested the public to stay indoors, keeping all windows shut, in order to reduce the exposure to wildfire smoke, especially for individuals with respiratory conditions like asthma or others.
