Facebook's bug bounty program now includes Instagram too

In the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal, Facebook introduced its Data Abuse Bounty Program to reward security researchers to spot data on the social networking medium. Now, Facebook has expanded its bug bounty program to Instagram.

When Facebook rolled out the bug bounty program last year, the company was in a bit of a soup and was working over-time to make amends for the Cambridge Analytica debacle. In April 2018, the company announced its bug bounty program. Under the announcement, the company had said that a tip-off about flaws or vulnerabilities could fetch security researchers as much as $40,000. The social media giant had clarified that there was no upper limit to the bounty.

Now, this program has been extended to Instagram too. Facebook will now reward security researchers who spot data abuse happening on Instagram. The company will accept reports on improper access of third-party apps, services and stored data and look to curb fake likes, comments and followers. The security community is bound to be happy with this new development.

Invites researchers to test ‘Checkout on Instagram’

In addition to the bug bounty program, Facebook also invited select security researchers to test the Checkout on Instagram feature. The company wanted inputs from the security sleuths to spot vulnerabilities. The security researchers will be getting special access to the new checkout feature on Instagram.
