TRAPWIRE: Structured by the Experience

TRAPWIRE: Structured by the Experience

The 9/11 was a shockwave that rattled the entire world. It was clear that we were unprepared for the ripples of terror that occurred on the American soil. While the terrorist attack was destructive, it was also an eye-opener for many to gear-up the surveillance systems and security measures. It was time to develop a capability to prevent such attacks in the future as well.

Keeping all of these in mind, TRAPWIRE was established to build and deploy technologies for counterterrorism and to protect critical infrastructure and personnel. The company provides products and solutions that are designed and developed by expert professionals in the field of counterterrorism, surveillance, and intelligence operations and analysis. As an intelligent and cloud-based incident reporting system, TRAPWIRE can analyze any security event to identify patterns and matches that suggest terrorist and/or criminal activities, right in the planning stage.

Expertise of Intelligence

TRAPWIRE was established in 2004 by Dan Botsch and his team of veteran security and intelligence personnel, where many were officers and members of the US Armed Forces and Secret Service fighting the US war against terrorism.

“We view TRAPWIRE as a continuation of our prior service, and as an opportunity to take a proactive stance against crime and terrorism,” says the founder and President, Dan Botsch. “We do this by helping law enforcement and private security agencies identify and disrupt criminal planning processes, apprehend perpetrators, and prevent attacks.”

This is why TRAPWIRE is built on a strong foundation where a multitude of tools can streamline and modernize the security operations. This includes a wide array of mobile apps, analysis tools, information sharing portals, and even mass warning and notification capabilities. The best part is that subject matter experts in various intelligence fields of law enforcement, anti-terrorism, surveillance detection, analysis, and operations have contributed to building the technology at TRAPWIRE.

The TRAPWIRE approach is based on two strong principles:

  • Prevention is not only preferable to damage mitigation, it is much more cost effective
  • The challenge is not only one of collecting information. Tools must be in place to help make sense of it all

Standing Apart

If you’re thinking that TRAPWIRE is just another surveillance system, you’re wrong. What makes TRAPWIRE stand apart is that it’s a surveillance detection system and the difference is a distinct one. Users generally have access to analytical tools to detect hostile surveillance operations. However, the TRAPWIRE system isn’t used to conduct surveillance, nor does it provide any such system. In fact, TRAPWIRE doesn’t even have access to video and other surveillance systems, nor does it control it.

While this is a distinguishing feature, there’s another thing that makes TRAPWIRE stand apart. “TRAPWIRE is the only system that provides a systematic, comprehensive approach to the prevention of terrorist attacks and criminal acts,” Dan says. Today, there are many systems out there that can collect data about incident, suspicious activity, and so on. Over time, this mass of data eventually turns into unwanted noise. But for any system to turn this noise into an actionable intelligence requires means of pulling the right signal.

TRAPWIRE is the chief in pulling out the right signal. It not only collects and aggregates reports in a standardized format, but also analyzes and disseminates the data to disclose patterns and threat indicators. While all these are important, it’s equally important to have an appropriate response and raise awareness at the same time, which TRAPWIRE ensures. Moreover, TRAPWIRE also assures that the bundled information and threat data are easily accessible and easy-to-understand. In this fast-paced world with constant changes in personnel and organizational structures, TRAPWIRE guarantees that the data is maintained constantly to prevent any disaster. The simple installment and easy-to-use features of TRAPWIRE has resulted in eliminating the need to hire additional personnel to operate the system by clients.

Meet the Champion

Dan Botsch, the President of TRAPWIRE, is also one of the founders of the company. Dan brings three decades of experience in government and private sector positions focused on security and intelligence. Prior to joining TRAPWIRE, Dan served 11 years as an Intelligence Officer with the Central Intelligence Agency, focusing on Russian and Eastern European affairs. He also has experience in corporate security, having served as the Deputy Director of a Business Intelligence Group that monitored political, economic, security and market dynamics for a Global 100 energy company.

Dan holds an MBA from the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business; a Masters degree in International Affairs from Boston University; and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Political Science from Bates College.

“TRAPWIRE is the only system that provides a systematic, comprehensive approach to the prevention of terrorist attacks and criminal acts.”

“As with all of our products and services, the TRAPWIRE system encapsulates the expertise of professionals in the areas of counterterrorism, surveillance, surveillance detection, and intelligence operations and analysis.”
