Verizon Launches SDP Service to tackle Cyber Attacks

With everything in the cloud, the threat to cyber security has increased. To tackle this threat, Verizon Enterprise Solution has launched a new Software Defined Perimeter(SDP) service, a dynamic cyber security service that enables enterprise customers to proactively identify and block cyber threats by creating a virtual boundary around their network.

Verizon's SDP service is a scalable Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution which provides pre-authenticated, 'context-aware', secure access to enterprise applications. It isolates communications between end users and enterprise application with the user requiring authentication to access the application. This enables rapid identification and prevention of network-based cyber attacks such as denial of service, connection hijacking, and credential theft.

"Our new Software Defined Perimeter service gives enterprise customers the ability to enhance their network security with a virtual and easy-to-implement solution," said Shawn Hakl, vice president of new products and innovation at Verizon. "The industry has been focused on SDP development for several years. We're pleased to offer this critical offering to help companies protect their network, their business, and their brand."

Most of today's application whether it is mobile or virtual business applications increase collaboration and productivity, but also pose a greater security risk as there is an opening to enter the network at multiple junctures. Also with things going on the cloud, the security threat increases with each endpoint. SDP helps reduce these risks by making critical applications and resources invisible to everyone until the end users and devices are authenticated and authorized.

The service renders the application invisible in the network until the user is authenticated and deemed trustworthy. Their tagline for the product 'Hackers can’t attack what they can’t see' is self explanatory on how the security works. The attackers, unless given an authentication by the service provider will not be able to detect the infrastructure itself on the network with the IP address and DNS information hidden from them.

The service is a part of Verizon's Security and Strategic Virtualized services portfolio and is currently available in United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Norway, and the European Union.
