Now, ChatGPT on mobile can access the internet, only through Bing.
OpenAI today revealed that users of ChatGPT Plus, the company's AI-powered chatbot's premium edition, can use a brand-new feature called Browsing to instruct ChatGPT to search Bing for information when they have questions.
You can enable browsing by choosing "GPT-4" from the model selector and "Browse with Bing" from the drop-down menu in the New Features section of the settings menu. Both the iOS and Android ChatGPT apps allow for browsing.
Inquiries about current events and requests for knowledge going beyond ChatGPT's initial training data, according to OpenAI, benefit most from browsing.
With browsing, which Microsoft and OpenAI had previously stated would be available this year, first on the web, ChatGPT becomes a more beneficial assistant. Before that, asking ChatGPT a question like "Who won the 2023 NCAA women's tournament?" would not yield a lot of accurate or useful results.
However, it appears that limiting ChatGPT's search options to Bing errs on the side of user hostility. Bing is not, however, the be-all and end-all of search engines. Microsoft and OpenAI have a close working relationship, and Microsoft has invested more than $10 billion in the startup. The business's goals are evident.
Microsoft unquestionably continues to improve the algorithms that power Bing. The disadvantage of ChatGPT's new browsing feature is that users will be without any other options if Bing makes mistakes, which is unavoidable.
The ChatGPT app has undergone a less contentious update that allows you to jump directly to a particular part of a conversation by tapping a search result. This modification will be put into effect this week along with Browsing, according to OpenAI.
