Tesla has halted operations at its German factory following a fire allegedly caused by a far-left organization, prompting the early summoning of emergency personnel to the area in Berlin.
Tesla has halted operations at its German plant following a far-left organization's purported "sabotage" of the plant, which involved setting fire to the electrical lines that powered it. Emergency services were called out early on Tuesday due to reports of a burning electricity pylon near the Tesla plant, located southeast of Berlin.
Despite being put out, damage to the power connections caused electric car manufacturing in Brandenburg and the surrounding areas to lose electricity. The police say they are investigating the possibility of arson. The far-left activist group Vulkangruppe (Volcano Group) claimed responsibility for the crime.
The group voiced concerns over the plant's impact on the environment and the nearby water supply. If it were proven, Germany's interior minister, Michael Stuebgen, stated that arson would be a cunning attack on our power infrastructure. Authorities estimated that it would take several days to restore power to the complex, leaving Tesla without power while the nearby towns and villages saw their electricity restored in hours. As soon as the factory opened in March 2022, Tesla competed with the local German automakers.
The company plans to expand the structure to add a freight station, an employee kindergarten, and warehouses.
