Kraft Heinz Co. is set to receive up to $170 million from the US Department of Energy's Office of Renewable Energy Demonstration to fund renewable energy initiatives.
The US Department of Energy's Office of Renewable Energy Demonstration is expected to award Kraft Heinz Co. up to $170 million to fund renewable energy initiatives at ten of the company's US facilities. According to the firm, a portion of Kraft Heinz's electrification and energy storage projects would be funded by the investments. The company has set a goal to reduce yearly emissions at the 10 sites by more than 99% from 2022 levels. The goal of Kraft Heinz, according to Chief Procurement and Sustainability Officer Marcos Eloi Lima, is to attain net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. With this investment, they will have the vital resources they need to upgrade their plants and lower emissions while also improving energy efficiency.
They are excited to get started, and this investment acknowledges their ongoing efforts to lessen their environmental impact. Heat pumps, electric heaters, electric boilers, anaerobic digesters, biogas boilers, solar thermal, solar photovoltaic, and thermal energy storage are among the equipment Kraft Heinz plans to build with the money. The infrastructure improvements made at these ten plants will enable Kraft Heinz to replicate successful technologies and processes across its remaining US plants as well as globally, increasing their efficiency as they continue to make upgrades to more locations, according to Helen Davis, senior vice president and head of North America operations.
