Volta Trucks, a commercial electric vehicle (EV) startup, announced two smaller zero-emission truck models that will go into production from 2025, paving the way for more options for urban deliveries.
The Stockholm-based EV truck maker, which also operates in Britain, said it would release a fleet of test vehicles of its 12-ton and 7.5-ton trucks for customers in 2024.
The new truck models will join the EV truck maker’s Volta Zero, a 16-tonne full-electric truck, which will go into series production later this year, and an 18-ton model slated to start production in 2023.
In February, the startup, Volta Trucks, announced it had raised 230 million euros ($247 million) to fund the launch of the 16-ton Volta Zero series production late this year.
A few countries in the European Union have bans on trucks over 7.5 tons operating on holidays or Sundays, and some cities like Amsterdam do not allow trucks over 7.5 tons to protect heritage streets and old bridges.
In a statement, Essa Al-Saleh, the CEO of Volta Trucks, said the firm’s customers reported that while they appreciated the safety and zero-emission attributes of the 16-ton Volta Zero, they also clamored for the need for smaller 7.5- and 12-ton trucks in their operations.
