A growing segment of the tech industry is focusing on women's health tracking as more women-led businesses develop products to bridge the gender healthcare gap.
As more businesses led by women develop products specially designed to track women's health, a rising segment of the tech industry is striving to enhance women's health and close the gender healthcare gap.
The Bloomer Tech created clothes with sensors that track health information to assist in detecting and combating heart disease in women by collecting data that helps detect arrhythmia triggers. Alicia Chong Rodriguez co-founded Bloomer Tech.
The wearer can exchange information with her doctor by using a smartphone app that receives the data. In order for the garment to be utilized as a medical device, Bloomer Tech needs to obtain Food and Drug Administration approval. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that over 60 million American women suffer from a cardiac condition. However, a 2018 American Heart Association study revealed that women are not receiving the same caliber of care as men.
More female entrepreneurs are creating technologies, especially for women, as a result of this trend. Similar to Maayan Cohen, chief executive officer of Hello Heart, who created a wearable monitor that, measures everything from exercise and weight to blood pressure and cholesterol. Real-time data transmission is made to an app that certain employer-sponsored health plans can access.
