The WHO has documented 56 attacks on health centers in Sudan.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than half of Sudan's population lacks access to health services as the country's ongoing conflict has destroyed facilities and forced some to close. Preventable deaths resulting from a lack of care and treatment have risen, and more than 70% of health facilities in conflict areas are non-functional. Every day, nine patients with renal dialysis die, and renal dialysis centers in four states have closed due to a lack of supplies. The WHO has documented 56 attacks on health centers in Sudan.
Since April, Sudan has seen fighting between the regular army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Over 3,000 civilians have reportedly died, with thousands injured. The WHO is currently supporting 11 hospitals and rolling out 12 mobile health clinics to provide life-saving and essential health services to people who have no access to health services. The WHO has called for an end to the violence in Sudan to enable the delivery of vital humanitarian aid. The organization is also providing medical supplies and equipment to support health facilities and partnering with other agencies to establish new clinics. However, the WHO warned that continued instability and a lack of access could result in a catastrophic humanitarian crisis.
