IBM, David Clark Cause, United Nations Human Rights, and the Linux Foundation officially launched the 2022 Call For Code, an annual development challenge for developers to create solutions to help with a problem the world is facing.
Now in its fifth installment this year, Call for Code focuses on creating solutions that take on climate change and sustainability. The teams whose projects win the top spots will earn up to $200K and continued support from IBM and its partners.
The submitted solutions can address a diverse range of climate challenges and provide things like new ways to improve sustainable management, production, and consumption of resources: protect biodiversity, reduce pollution creation, and much more.
Bill Stark, the Chief Impact Officer of Right Here Right Now Global Climate Alliance, said that from rising sea levels, extreme weather events, droughts, and wildfires to food insecurity, mass migrations, health impacts, and increasing global conflict, there was no denying that climate change was a humanitarian crisis. He added that with its history of success and global reach over the years, they were excited to work with Call For Code as it had proven to be the gold standard when it came to engaging developers globally to innovate for social good.
The challenge opens on 27th April 2022, and projects can be submitted before the deadline of 31st October 2022.
