Chuck Todd, former anchor of "Meet the Press," criticizes NBC News for hiring former Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel as a paid political commentator.
Chuck Todd, the former anchor of "Meet the Press," blasted NBC News on Sunday for employing Ronna McDaniel, the former chair of the Republican National Committee, as a paid political commentator. It was an astonishing critique of the network. The network's chief political analyst, Todd, was harsh in his criticism after McDaniel made her network debut in an interview with Kristen Welker, the current moderator of "Meet the Press." In her capacity as RNC chair, McDaniel was a well-known election denier who attempted to sway the 2020 election in favor of the deposed former president Donald Trump. She also has a lengthy history of attacking the press industry, which includes making derogatory remarks against hosts of MSNBC and journalists for the NBC press.
Putting an election denier on staff is unusual and generally regarded as unethical for a news company, much less one that has damaged the organization's and its journalists' reputations for years. In an interview with NBC News, Welker revealed that the interview was planned before McDaniel's hiring was revealed. She clarified that McDaniel's hiring was not influenced by her. McDaniel's interview on January 6th revealed significant differences between herself and Trump regarding the release of individuals who stormed the US Capitol and the election of President Joe Biden in 2020.
