As the company reallocates resources to artificial intelligence, Google CEO Sundar Pichai is warning employees to expect more layoffs this year.
Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, is advising staff members to expect additional layoffs this year as the business reallocates resources to artificial intelligence.
In a memo delivered to staff members this month, Pichai — who also serves as CEO of Google's parent company Alphabet — told them that the tech giant will be laying off layers of staff this year in order to raise money for investing in [the business's] top objectives, as confirmed by a Google representative.
With Google expected to reveal its AI objectives for the year later this week, the corporation is vying for the upper hand in an arms race in artificial intelligence. The tech giant debuted Gemini, the "biggest upgrade yet" to its AI chatbot Bard, just last month.
Prior to that, the business promised to invest $2 billion in Anthropic, an OpenAI rival, according to CNBC.
According to the letter, Pichai stated that the layoffs would not affect every team and would be less widespread than the job losses from the previous year, but he did not specify which functions or how many would be lost.
An increasing number of major corporations, such as Microsoft and Samsung, are creating their own artificial intelligence models as investor interest in this emerging technology grows. According to experts, the market might be valued at over $2 trillion in 2032, according to a report by research firm Spherical Insights & Consulting.
