Walmart tests in-home delivery with August smart locks

Walmart is reportedly working with August, expert home security makers. Residents who have installed Augusts’ security systems like doorbells and security cameras will receive Walmart packages inside their homes, instead of leaving it out on the doorstep.

August is one of the top-notch security providers in the country. The Augusts’ smart lock allows one-time entry for the delivery drivers. With the smart security devices installed at home, the customers can see the entire delivery process right from the beginning with a notification sent to their mobile phones.

The VP of Walmart e-Commerce Strategy and Business Operations, Sloan Eddleston said, “We’re excited to be running this test in Silicon Valley with a handful of August Home customers, all of whom have opted in to participate in testing this new concept.”

And so the tests have already begun running in the Silicon Valley. Currently, the tests include online grocery orders and others. The grocery won’t just be placed inside the house like packages, but instead, it will be put away in the fridge and freezer appropriately.

“We want to do more in the future by delivering groceries and other orders in whatever location works best for our customers – inside the house for some and in the fridge/freezer in the garage for others,” Eddleston added.
