Facebook is allowing its users to merge messenger chats with Instagram DM. Now the users who don’t want to use both the platforms separately can choose either of their favorite platforms. This will help users who are not actively using Facebook or messenger to connect seamlessly with friends and family still using Facebook.
Although there is a catch, only Facebook messenger users can initiate a chat with an Instagram user. But an Instagram user can’t invite or initiate a chat with a person on Facebook. As both platforms are owned and operated by Facebook, this may soon change. Also, the change of merging is optional. For example, if a person wants the two platforms and contacts to be separate, he can choose so by selecting the option “Not Now”.
For the users, who choose the option “Update” will see a significant change in their Instagram DM “look and feel”. The whole new UI experience changes to that of Facebook messenger, even the logo of the Instagram DM changes to that of messenger’s.
The chats are more colorful like messenger, with more emojis and swipe to reply feature, and lastly, the option to chat with messenger users. Surprisingly, even if you choose not to update and merge them, Facebook users can still DM you on Instagram DM.
“We want to build the best messaging experiences we can; and people want messaging to be fast, simple, reliable, and private. We’re working on making more of our messaging products end-to-end encrypted and considering ways to make it easier to reach friends and family across networks,” a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement.
