Show IT pros a path to retain more data from Seagate Technology's Lyve Cloud

We all know that there is a lot of data flow today, as edge devices, IoT and digitization is taking up the storage consumption on premises and in the cloud. Enterprise storage vendors are in a belief to manage data growth with extensible cloud services and enable users to extend capacity as required.

One of the apt examples is Lyve Cloud from Seagate Technology which is a STaaS offering rolled out in the beginning of the year. This service is for those companies that are looking to expand storage capacity with fitting clouds while also balancing their ideal data management software and many other services.

Jeff Fochtman, senior vice president of business and marketing at Seagate said "We think storage, compute and networking should be separated.” Fochtman added, "It gives you the most flexibility on your technology bill going forward. Lyve is designed to be storage only. We expect you have an existing software infrastructure and our hardware can plug right into that."

"The challenge will be for Seagate to continue growing its portfolio of software and services under the Lyve umbrella, as this is all part of delivering a comprehensive SaaS experience that enterprises expect -- with a range of data services at their disposal,"Smith said.

For data growth, STaaS is not the only option but it can be an alternative for company’s storage plan. Currently, firms are preferring capacity on Opex basis instead of sticking around with extra hardware that probably is not effectively used.
