China has its first 5G phone. And it is from ZTE and not Huawei. The brand new 5G smartphone, the Axon 10 5G, was announced at the MWC in February this year. Now, it is available for purchase in China.
The ZTE handset comes with a 6.47 inch 1080p AMOLED display and its 5G capability is powered by Qualcomm’s X50 5G modem. The mobile smartphone is up for sale but the buyers are unlikely to access 5G until later this year. 5G network is slated to debut in China in October when China Mobile commercially launches its 5G services.
The Axon 10 5G has a triple camera setup including a 48-mp main sensor, an ultra-wide 20-mp lens, and an 8-mp telephoto lens. It has a 4,000 mAh battery and runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 855. The phone is available at Yuan 4,999 (approximately $720).
But the release of the ZTE device makes it the first 5G phone to hit the Chinese market. This means that Shenzhen-based mobile-maker has beaten Huawei in this race. Huawei’s Mate 20 X 5G had been launched for some other countries last month, including the UK, but the phone is only expected to be released after August 16 for China.
