Amazonians urge Amazon to act on climate change

Thousands of employees have filed an open letter to the Amazon board of directors and CEO- Jeff Bezos. What’s it about? To take action to fight climate change. Signed by more than 3,500 employees by Wednesday noon, Amazon employees are setting another example by harnessing their power to pressurize leadership.

Extract from the letter reads: “Amazon has the resources and scale to spark the world’s imagination and redefine what is possible and necessary to address the climate crisis. We believe this is a historic opportunity for Amazon to stand with employees and signal to the world that we’re ready to be a climate leader.”

It all started with Amazon teaming up with oil and gas companies and the employees felt there’s a call for strict actions to protect the environment and adopt climate-friendly policies. In a strong IT services initiative, the Amazon employees said climate impact should a top consideration in everything that’s done at the firm on its mission to be ‘Earth’s most customer-centric company.’

Commenting on the open letter, an Amazon spokesperson said that the company’s commitment to environmental issues is ‘unwavering.’ The statement released said: “Amazon’s sustainability team is using a science-based approach to develop data and strategies to ensure a rigorous approach to our sustainability work. We have launched several major and impactful programs and are working hard to integrate this approach fully across Amazon.”
