Amazon is planning on upgrading its free two-day shipping by turning it into one-day shipping for its Prime customers. The company’s CFO Brian Olsavsky during Amazon’s first quarter 2019 earnings call said: “We’re currently working on evolving Prime two-day to Prime one-day.”
The news will bring joy to the Prime customers as they get their orders delivered to their doorstep in a shorter frame of time with this new feature in works. Currently, one-day shipping option requires a Prime customer to order at least $35 worth of items. But the new one-day shipping option is expected to come without a cap.
Amazon’s CFO also said that as much as $800 million has been set aside to make this vision possible. The online retail giant has already started its work to expand its presence for one-day shipping but it is expected that much of 2019 will be spent on bringing this vision to fruition. The company will be using the U.S. Postal Service and its transport partners to make one-day shipping a standard for Prime customers.
The expansion of the one-day shipping is currently only planned for North America but will eventually expand globally. The new option will open up a lot of potential purchases as the shipping time decreases by half.
