Amazon has launched its Intellectual Property Accelerator (IP Accelerator) in Europe. This will help small and medium-sized businesses to obtain trademarks and protect their brands in a better way. It will also help companies tackle counterfeit goods.
The IP Accelerator has been made available for users in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. It is being made available to brands that are selling on Amazon’s stores. It will also connect entrepreneurs through a curated network of European law firms with expertise in IP rights. The law firms will directly charge fees to SMBs to help them attain clarity about how much obtaining a trademark will cost. The SMBs can also seek general IP advice from the law firms as guidance for growth.
Amazon, in its press release, has said that the IP Accelerator was launched with small business owners in mind. Francois Saugier, Vice President for EU Seller Services, Amazon, said: “We know from our conversations with small business owners that there is often confusion about why IP rights are important and how sellers can secure them. As part of our broader commitment to supporting small businesses, we have set up IP Accelerator to make the IP registration process as easy and as affordable as possible for entrepreneurs in the early days of their businesses.”
