Anker unveils the tiniest' $30 USB-PD wall charger

Anker, a global leader in charging technology, announced a handful of new products at a media event in Manhattan, New York. The bunch includes the Nebula Capsule II pico projector, the PowerPort Atom PD charger (Anker's smallest 27W charger yet) and the Soundcore Model Zero+ speaker.

The smallest of the bunch is the PowerPort Atom PD 1 charger, which is the first charger in the market to use Gallium Nitride (GaN) components. The compact wall charger is designed to free up spaces around an outlet and the use of GaN makes the device slimmer, lighter and more efficient than other conventional wall chargers, says the company.

The $30 device sports a USB-C port and packs enough wattage to fully power any USB-C smartphone or other IoT accessory, more power-hungry devices like the Nintendo Switch, and even smaller laptops like Apple’s 12-inch MacBook, claims the company. The PowerPort Atom PD 1 is expected to supply nearly the same power as the 30W USB-C PD brick that Anker has sold for a while.

Atom PD 1 is the first in a line of Atom chargers, and arriving in the near future is a two USB-C port, 60 W Atom PD 2 charger and a four-port (2 USB-C and 2 USB-A), 100 W Atom PD 4 charger.

The new Anker charger is expected to be available at the end of November, signals the company.
