Microsoft Office icons change as part of major redesign

It looks like the Microsoft Office is undergoing a major redesign as its icons get a facelift. The icons are getting an update after five years. Here, Microsoft has made the new icons even simpler and modern to make them span on multiple platforms as its present on Windows, Android, Mac, and iOS.

With so many varied platforms, Microsoft has been innovating its core codebase to bring about some monthly improvements. Artificial Intelligence, better collaboration, independence, and more features for its apps like Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, etc are imbibed into the new design icon, while at the same time reduces the emphasis on the letter of each app.

According to the partner director of design at Microsoft, Jon Friedman: “our design solution was to de-couple the letter and the symbol from the icons, essentially creating two panels (one for the letter and one for the symbol) that we can pair or separate. This allows us to maintain familiarity while still emphasizing simplicity when inside the app.”

However, the minute you look at the icon, you'll recognize which app you're looking at. The redesign also extends to OneDrive and Skype as well. However, these apps aren't the key highlights to the new design change that Microsoft is introducing.
