Walmart has decided to shake hands with Microsoft as they both seek to compete with the number one retailer in the country, Amazon. Walmart is entering into a partnership with Microsoft to arm itself with Microsoft’s cloud computing services to make shopping a better experience. The retail giant has committed itself into a five year agreement with the computing giant to gain an edge in today’s ruthless retail world. With this new collaboration, Walmart is also vying to step up its online presence.
Over the course of the five year deal, it is expected that all of walmart.com and samsclub.com will move to Microsoft’s Azure. In a statement, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said: “The world’s leading companies run on our cloud, and I’m thrilled to partner with Walmart to accelerate their digital transformation with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365”.
Microsoft is Amazon’s biggest rival when it comes to cloud computing. Microsoft will be providing its whole assortment of services through its Azure, Microsoft 365 and also provide AI assistance to Walmart. Microsoft’s prowess in cloud computing will help leverage Walmart’s e-commerce dreams to help it contest Amazon better.
