A new Instagram feature may be rolled out shortly. Still, in testing, Instagram plans to notify/show users when someone else takes a screenshot of their story. More specifically, users will not be getting a notification as such, but Story creators can see it up in their list of story viewers.
The users who are participating in the test are getting a warning that the next time they take a screenshot of a friend’s story; the friend will be able to see it. Also, the users can see who took a screenshot of their story. You can view it by going to the list of story viewers and clicking on the new camera shutter logo.
Notified
Based on the results of the test, Instagram will decide whether to roll out the feature to all users or not. Any noticeable impact on engagement will be the deciding factor. For instance, if there’s a chance that some users may end up watching fewer stories over time if they aren’t able to take screenshots without notifying the creator, Instagram may not release the feature at all. Nevertheless, if this feature is rolled out, it would essentially align Instagram with Snapchat in terms of how the platform deals with screenshots! One can wait and see if it’ll ultimately be rolled out or not.
