Microsoft AccountGuard now available in Australia

Microsoft has announced that its security service, Microsoft AccountGuard, is now available to the eligible organizations and individuals in Australia. The service was introduced last year in the U.S.

The company decided to bring the critical cybersecurity protection service to Australia as the country prepares for its upcoming federal election in May. The company on its blog said: “With the Federal election on the horizon and NSW poll just days away it’s timely to reflect on the importance of democracy to all Australians and to take stock of how well we are able to protect our democratic rights and institutions.”

The service provided by the IT giant is a key element in its Defending Democracy initiative and was developed to defend against interference in the democratic processes that are increasingly occurring all over the world.

The service is very efficient and provides notification about cyber threats by known state-actors. The notifications are available across the email systems run by the political organizations and personal accounts of the party leaders and staff. The AccountGuard service will be provided at no cost in Australia to the political parties and candidates who use Office 365. In addition to being available to the political candidates and parties, the service will also be available to eligible Think Tanks and associated entities.
