Field Safe Solutions Easy-to-use, all-in-one worker health and safety application

The world is changing faster than ever before. Managing that change and responding to it nimbly and effectively will require data and the insights it provides. This need for data means the CIO’s role will continue to expand and be more critical than ever.

Field Safe Solutions sees the management of data through connecting workers an area that affords expanded opportunity to help companies and CIOs improve workers’ safety and do it in a manner that uncovers additional business efficiencies and cost savings.

Field Safe is a cloud-based software as a service company whose head office is in Calgary, Alberta. Its easy-to-use field worker safety application and smarter workflows methodology facilitate the relay of real-time, accurate, and secure information between remote workers and head office. We had a word with Cameron Barrett, the CEO of the company. Here are some excerpts which describe the company and its products in detail.

Please share with us the journey of Field Safe. How successful is the company today?

Most Boards of Directors and senior executives have mandates to improve employee safety, lower operating costs, and expand digitization efforts to create efficiencies across the organization. Field Safe’s success in becoming a leading health and safety application provider is because we help our clients meet all three of these mandates, or, as our tag line says, “SAVE TIME, SAVE MONEY AND SAVE LIVES.”

The key to our success is data and our ability to relay it quickly and easily by digitizing field workers to connect them to head office and other team members. Field Safe understands that health and safety information, when managed effectively, can impact decision-making across the organization. Since data management is a key responsibility of the CIO, it helps them meet their mandates concerning the integration and usability of all corporate information.

Field Safe’s most crucial key differentiator is our ease of use. Companies struggle to get field workers to complete and submit required paperwork. Because our software is easy-to-use, adoption rates are high, and forms are completed and submitted, providing managers the data they need to quickly and cost-effectively improve safety performance and operations.

What is the motivation behind setting up Field Safe?

Field Safe has evolved substantially since inception, but we always stay true to our original focus – “worker safety.” One of our founders faced a life-threatening situation while working alone in a remote location. A farmer didn’t like the message he was being told and pulled a gun. This was definitely a “don’t shoot the messenger” moment! Luckily, our founder came out of that situation unharmed, but he was also determined to find a better way to ensure field workers’ safety. Field Safe is that better way. Since then, we have evolved our application to improve operations and lower costs in addition to protecting workers. We do this by digitizing field workers, which resolves the field data capture gap and creates many benefits.

How does Field Safe’s easy-to-use safety application and smarter workflows methodology connect workers and help clients save time, save money and save lives?

In response to feedback from our clients, we built Field Safe’s suite of products to create an easy-to-use, all-in-one health and safety system that facilitates user adoption and includes real-time communication, manages journeys, tracks tickets and tasks, digitizes forms completion and data capture, ensures regulatory compliance and improves corporate decision making.

But we also realized that technology alone wasn’t the answer. We needed to understand how clients were managing their health and safety processes. This led to the development of our smarter workflows methodology. We conduct a review of each client’s operations and workflows before implementing any products. This review inevitably uncovers opportunities to implement change management initiatives to create more intelligent, more effective workflows.

Tell us how Connected Worker functions? What are the benefits of using it?

Connecting workers with a digital safety application makes their jobs easier and improves their well-being while also creating optimized, lower-cost operations. The superior data generated by improved forms completion rates are instantly shared, influencing operational efficiencies that improve EHS programs and your entire enterprise. By integrating EHS data into corporate systems, we raise the Connected Worker’s power to the next level, creating value and improving decision-making across your entire enterprise.

Why is Employee and Contractor Monitoring effective?

Companies that still use manual processes must rely on phone calls to track their workers and contractors, which obviously limits their ability to make cost-effective business decisions. By digitizing the field, our clients gain instant access to this information which in turn not only improves employee and contractor safety but allows them to direct the right individuals to the highest priority projects based on business need - simply, quickly, and cost-effectively.

How does Field Safe take responsibility for the health and safety of its clients’ people?

The health and safety of our staff, as well as our clients’, is our highest priority. Our response to COVID-19 is a great example that illustrates our dedication to worker safety and our ability to adapt to emerging risks quickly.Field Safe quickly realized that responding to the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure workers’ safety while meeting business commitments would be a huge challenge for CEOs and Boards. Protocols frequently change as we learn more and more about the virus. Our ability to connect and communicate with workers in real-time, whether working from home, the office, at the site, or in transit, is playing a vital role.

Where do you see Field Safe a few years from now?

Our trusted advisor relationship with clients is one of the main reasons we can nimbly evolve to meet their changing needs and respond quickly to new market conditions. We are currently focused on leading health and safety programs into the “Internet of Behaviors” space by combining our change management expertise with our data capture capabilities.

Several clients are now using Field Safe to meet their ESG goals which is establishing them as leaders in this emerging area. Of special note, the environmental savings (along with the reduced paper, vehicle maintenance and travel costs)provide a near revenue neutral investment!

Technology isn’t the only area that we are evolving. We are also quickly expanding into new markets, including the US.

Field Safe is committed to our continued leadership in the health and safety application space and to helping our clients SAVE TIME, SAVE MONEY and SAVE LIVES.
