If there’s one thing Sam Neo believes, it is that everyone has great stories to tell, it’s just a matter of whether they come forward to tell it, or if they package it well. After setting up a successful Human Resources (HR) company, Sam decided to start a passion project — he created a platform where people across Asia could come together and feel safe enough to share their stories and unlock opportunities. It is intrinsic in Asian culture to avoid showing off, and that means not many people share the good work they do. Hence, he created Stories of Asia as a platform for people to showcase their stories, value, and connect with a supportive community.
What does it mean to be a storyteller incubator?
“It means we help individuals as well as companies build their brand. Individuals get to build their personal brand and attract leads because they were able to share their story effectively, and brands are able to position themselves as employers of choice and become talent magnets.”
Stories of Asia and the innovative ideas behind it
“To me, innovation is not always about revolutionizing things. It can also be about using what limited resources you have to create a big impact in a way that you might not have thought was possible. When the pandemic hit, it was really a huge blow for us, as we had a lot of physical events that were hugely successful, but then we had to reinvent ourselves.
“So what did we do? Beyond doing online webinars and events which everyone was doing, we launched seven chapters across Asia. I was thinking, how can I go about growing it in such a quick and short time. That was when we worked with local leaders in different countries as volunteers at different levels.
“For example, we found a couple of leaders within each country’s chapters. We had senior leaders who joined business leaders to drive sponsorship of the chapters. And then we also partnered young professionals to drive the initiative from the ground level. And that was one part that kind of helped us grow pretty quickly and gave us the immediate presence, even though it took some time.”

Sam Neo is the Founder and CEO of Stories of Asia and also the Founder of People Mentality Inc. As a trusted advisor, he has worked with leaders in various large and reputable organizations such as Samsung, L’Oréal, Prudential, Diageo, Singtel Group, Under Armour, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and more. Besides securing MOM’s National Human Resource Scholarship in 2011, Sam’s contributions to the Human Resources (HR) community were also recognized and, in turn, awarded as one of the Human Resources (HR) Rising Stars in 2016.
As a millennial Human Resources (HR) thought leader, he is regularly invited to deliver keynotes at conferences globally.
