Head-to-head with the industry luminary: Anthony Pompliano, President and CEO
What is the story behind ANEXIO?
I got the idea to start ANEXIO as the result of studying how to serve the thousands and thousands of mid-market customers better. About four years ago, I saw the technology transformation that was occurring as companies were moving from premise-based solutions to one where the technology was going to be deployed either in a data center or via a cloud solution. I saw an opportunity to acquire several regionally-focused IT firms, and consolidate them to create some scale, both in terms of the size of the company, and in the size of the service portfolio.
What is ANEXIO’s growth strategy?
ANEXIO is driven to be the leading provider of mission critical Managed IT Services, offering a complete “Desktop to Data Center†product portfolio to mid-market customers. Today, we have eight data centers, and IT solutions center and a carrier-grade coast-to-coast IP network. We will continue to grow our company through acquisitions and organic sales. The channel also plays a key role in our future growth. We recently announced our new ANEXIO Advantage Channel Partner program which rewards partners who extend ANEXIO’s reach into the marketplace. For a limited time, all ANEXIO ADVANTAGE partners will receive 100 percent of first month revenue on all deals they close, two-years or longer, in addition to their standard monthly commission.
What does the future hold for ANEXIO?
More customer wins, more acquisitions and more momentum are in ANEXIO’s future. ANEXIO is just getting warmed up. We’re only in chapter one of our great story. Every day, we show up to work more determined to help customers make a smooth transition from their legacy IT environments to a more efficient Hybrid Cloud infrastructure. We are playing in a large and growing market and we will continue to listen to our customers and provide them with the mission critical products and services they need.
Which market vertical are you focusing on?
ANEXIO is focused on the mid-market enterprise space. These are firms that are sophisticated technology users. They typically have a CIO and/or a CTO and they use technology not only to keep the lights on, but also to generate revenue and service their own customers. These are firms that are large enough and sophisticated enough to require ANEXIO’s level of reliable Managed IT Services. We thought that there was an opportunity to serve that market by being very efficient, being very customer responsive and by being thought leaders as it relates to IT transformation.
What inspires you in your business?
I’m inspired to serve our customers. The first thing you need to know about ANEXIO is that we live to serve our customers. Customer satisfaction fuels everything we do. Every day I wake up and I constantly think about how all ANEXIO employees can serve the customer better. The ANEXIO business model is based on winning a customer for life by helping them move from their legacy environment to a much more efficient hybrid environment.
What key business beliefs have helped you be successful?
I’ve always believed in myself and I don’t mind doing the hard work it takes to be successful in the early stages of every company. I’ve learned how to establish and reinforce culture, hire the right people at the right time, measure everything, celebrate the wins and learn from the losses and through it all stay very focused on delivering the best customer support possible.
What is a typical day in your office like?
I start the day by listening to customers and I end the day by listening to customers. Customers are the lifeblood of ANEXIO. In between my customer conversations I host working sessions with ANEXIO employees and our technology partners, investors or the media. It gets so busy and I’m having so much fun that sometimes I forget to eat lunch.
What factors set ANEXIO apart?
We believe that when you take care of the customer everything else falls in line. We constantly listen to our customers and provide them with the products and services that they are asking for. The second thing that sets ANEXIO apart is that we have great people who are all committed to helping our customers have the smoothest transition possible from their legacy IT environment to a Hybrid Cloud infrastructure. In order to do this, we have invested in first class data center facilities, IT solutions center and a nationwide IP network.
Was there a job or two in your background that helped you become the high-growth business leader that you are today?
Yes. Two jobs helped define the business leader that I am today. I was very fortunate to work at a new company called MCI during the initial stages of long-distance telecom competition. MCI was competing against ATT, the incumbent telecom leader. At MCI, I learned a lot about business management and technology management, but most importantly I learned how to compete and how to win. I later joined ATT and that position opened my eyes to the growing opportunity that the Managed IT Services business represented.
