YouTube brings offline download to desktop via web browsers

Now you can download the video while browsing through the feed and select specific quality for downloads.

Most of the time, we like to watch YouTube on the go. The feature has been on Android and iOS for the standalone apps. But YouTube is nowgoing a step further and allowing users to download offline videos in their browsers for offline watching. This can be a game-changer as it will not require any standalone app and will work via web browsers.

However, this is an experimental feature that is available for YouTube Premium subscribers. Premium subscribers can go to the YouTube Labs page and look for the new ‘Download videos from your browser‘ experiment. The test is active until October 19 and only for specific browsers such as Chrome, Edge, and Opera. However, it is not confirmed if the feature will be made available to all after the testing or limited topremium subscribers.

After enrolling in the test, you will find a new Download button between the current ‘Share’ and ‘Save’ buttons. You can download the video while browsing through the feed and select specific quality for downloads. The highest quality supported for offline download is 1080p. Just like YouTube mobile app, downloads will expire if you don’t connect your device to the internet at least once every 30 days. Anyway, this is a much-needed feature for people who binge-watch YouTube just like Netflix or other streaming apps but have unstable or slow internet.
