Huawei introduces its new flagship phones, the Mate 30 series

Huawei’s Mate 30 series has been long anticipated. On Thursday, the company finally lifted the covers off its latest 5G capable Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro.

The mobile is being touted as the most powerful smartphone in the market but it has an Achilles heel. It lacks access to Google’s most popular apps like YouTube, Gmail, PlayStore and even Google Maps.

Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s consumer business group launched the Mate 30 series in an event in Munich, Germany. He said: “Yes, we have some limitations on Google Mobile Services. But we have a huge advantage with the phone itself.”

Fantastic specs

The Mate 30 has a 6.62-inch OLED screen while the Mate 30 Pro comes with a 6.53-inch screen flexible OLED screen.

The Mate 30 and Mate 30 pro run on Huawei’s Kirin 990 chip which was announced at the IFA recently. The chip makes it the first from Huawei which has a built-in 5G modem. So, the phones are available in 4G as well as in 5G.

The Mate 30 Pro comes with a larger 4,500 mAh battery in comparison to the Mate 30’s 4,200 mAh. But both of the mobile phones support fast charging up to 40W wired (27W wireless).

Camera

The Mate 30 has a main 40-megapixel camera, an ultra-wide-angle 16-megapixel camera and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera and a laser focus sensor. The Mate 30 Pro gets a pump as its ultra-wide -angle camera comes with 40-megapixel resolution and swaps laser focus with a 3D depth sensor.

The Mate 30 will come with 8GB RAM and 128 GB of storage, and will start at 779 euros. Meanwhile, the Mate 30 Pro will come with increased storage of 256 GB, and starts at 1,099 euros (4G). The Mate 30 Pro’s 5G model will be priced at 1,199 euros. There’s also a Porsche Design edition which will start at 2,095 euros.
