The global market leader in the logistics industry DHL has launched an app called DHL Africa eShop which will help the global retailers sell more goods to the African consumer markets. The e-commerce app will operate using MallforAfrica.com’s Link Commerce service.
The app has gone live and has more than 200 U.S and U.K retailers on-board. The app is online in South Africa, Nigeria, Mauritius, Ghana, Senegal, Malawi, Botswana, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda. The app comes with the payments method including fintech options like Paga and M-Pesa.
The app will especially bring the U.S and U.K into the African market where their presence is considerably lax. Hennie Heymans, CEO of DHL Express Sub-Saharan Africa, in a statement, said: “As the global leader in express logistics, DHL is well positioned to connect African consumers with exciting global brands. This is yet another opportunity for DHL to reaffirm its commitment to supporting the growth of e-commerce in the region.”
E-commerce has a huge potential in the region but the e-commerce giants are yet to make their presence felt here. Amazon and Alibaba have only recently started talks of expansion in Africa. But this app by DHL is a promising step forward and will give the African consumers greater access to international retailers through the platform.
