Walmart creates additional 500 pickup towers to their brick-and-mortar stores. This helps online buyers to pick up their orders from the company’s website; the only work buyers have is to scan a barcode at their local Walmart's tower before receiving their order which is one-of-a-kind in retail industry.
As per Walmart’s reports, 40% of US population will have the opportunity to use these towers by 2018. Since the project kicked off, there was great response to it and 500,000 orders have been processed via the towers. The firm has planned to create 500 new Pickup Towers by the end of the year.
Amazon’s coup over the online retail market ended up other online retailers declare bankruptcy last September. Walmart offers discounts for its items online to curb Amazon’s business; Amazon made almost $2 billion in profit in the last quarter of 2017, its highest ever, while Walmart saw only a 23% growth in its e-commerce sales in the same period.
Amazon recently launched Amazon Go, which was most talked about due to its “Walk Out Technology” which permitted customers to scan their cellphones as soon as they enter the stores and be charged automatically for anything they walk out of the store with.
