T-Mobile extends Call Verified to Samsung S10 and LG G8

T-Mobile’s Call Verified feature will be extending to users of Samsung Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, and S10E. LG G8 ThinQ and LG Aristro 3 users can also avail the feature. Call Verified feature displays a message that verifies if the incoming call is from a person and not from an internet spammer or VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). The new phones join Samsung’s Note 9, Galaxy 9 and S9 Plus.

T-Mobile uses STIR/SHAKEN technology when it comes to call verification. STIR stands for Secure Telephone Identity Revisited and SHAKEN: Signature-based Handling of Asserted information using toKENs. The technology here is based on a certificate system that’s generally used by browsers to confirm if a website is real.

Although Call Verified isn’t going to end the spam call menace, it certainly helps to tell you which calls are VoIP spam. It was recorded that there were over 26.3 billion robocalls were made in the U.S. alone last year. So far, only the above mentioned devices have access to the feature. Other telecom networks like Verizon and AT&T are yet to roll out a similar feature. Moreover, the FCC has announced to take action if STIR/SHAKEN isn’t implemented this year.
