After months of conjecture and vague statements, Verizon has finally announced that it will be officially launching its 5G wireless service on April 11. The 5G network will be available in the areas of Chicago and Minneapolis for now.
Making its announcement, the telecom giant has said that the 5G service can be availed by its subscribers by paying an additional $10 a month. Subscribers of the three unlimited plans will have to pay revised prices while availing 5G in these two cities: $85 per month for the base Go Unlimited plan, $95 per month for the Beyond Unlimited, and $105 per month for the Above Unlimited plan.
Coinciding with this announcement is its launch of 5G Moto Mod, exclusive to Verizon. The 5G Moto Mod, when paired with the Moto Z3 creates the world’s first 5G-upgradable smartphone. The technology was created and developed at Verizon’s Chicago HQ. You can now pre-order the 5G Moto Mod to give your Moto Z3 an upgrade if you are in the Chicago and Minneapolis area.
The company plans to rapidly expand its 5G coverage area soon. It intends to launch its 5G Ultra Wideband network to more than 30 U.S cities by the end of 2019.
