Netgear is rolling out a new satellite from the Orbi line that is weatherproof and allows users to add Wi-Fi coverage all the way to the backyard. Netgear is now shipping the RBS50Y that will add coverage even outside without users having to worry about access points shot circuiting out in the rain.
This new device requires specifically an Orbi Router RBR50, RBR40, RBR20 or SRR60. It connects to the home network through an app. With this outdoor router, there are an additional 2,500 square feet of extra coverage. It also increases the Wi-Fi coverage outside of the house from about -80 dBm to -51 dBm, which is certainly a big improvement.
Additionally, there’s an overall development of the hardware since its first launch, including the app. The updated app supports granular device control, which allows users to eliminate others off the network. The price for the outdoor satellite costs $329, while a router and two satellites cost $291. Although it is on the higher end for a home router setup, the tremendous improvement in the Wi-Fi speed is worth considering.
